A friend of mine that had an orchard was always using these as a go-to apple for everything. If you were having trouble with growing McIntosh, then grow Spartan apples. This one has much to say in the disease resistance dept. especially with resistance to apple scab, where the McIntosh falls short. This one, like the Ambrosia apple, is from British Columbia. Though this Spartan is more deliberate in it's upcoming as it was bred at the Dominion Experiment Station in Summerland. The other parent is the Newtown Pippen, at least that is what is written down anyway.
